Grid проти DCA: який торговий бот підходить вашому ринку?

Grid-боти збирають волатильність у бічному тренді, DCA-боти накопичують позиції з часом. Як підібрати стратегію до ринкового режиму — і чому запуск обох є ключем.

The two most popular automated strategies answer opposite questions. A DCA bot asks: “how do I build a position without timing the market?” A grid bot asks: “how do I profit while the market goes nowhere?” Choosing between them is less about which is “better” and more about which question your market is currently asking.

What a grid bot does

A grid bot slices a price range into levels and runs a ladder of orders: buy when price falls through a level, sell when it rises back through the next one. Every completed cycle banks the distance between two adjacent levels, minus fees. The bot is directionally neutral and only earns while price oscillates inside its corridor.

Its defining trait is inventory risk: in a sustained downtrend the grid keeps buying all the way down, converting quote currency into a falling asset. A grid without a stop or invalidation point is a pile of limit orders, not a strategy. See the mechanics in depth in our grid trading guide.

What a DCA bot does

A DCA bot buys a fixed amount at fixed intervals — hourly, daily, weekly — mechanically averaging the entry price over time. It takes profit or cuts the position when a target move from the average entry is reached. There is no range, no inventory ladder: just disciplined, scheduled accumulation.

Its defining trait is time risk: it holds through drawdowns by design, and only makes sense if your horizon is long enough for the average to matter. Common failure modes — stopping after three red weeks, sizing orders by feeling — are behavioral, not mechanical, as covered in our piece on DCA mistakes.

Match the bot to the market regime

The single most useful habit in automated trading is naming the regime before naming the bot:

  • Ranging, volatile market — price chops inside a clear band. This is grid territory: high cycle frequency, inventory risk contained by the corridor.
  • Sustained trend, either direction — grids accumulate into downtrends and sell too early in uptrends. DCA handles uptrends gracefully and suffers in downtrends by design.
  • Crash and capitulation — neither bot should be a hero. This is where stops, reduced size, and dry powder matter more than strategy choice.
  • Boring grind with a long-term bias — DCA’s home turf. Small moves, no edge for grids, perfect for scheduled accumulation.

Capital and time horizons

Grid capital is working capital: it should be sized for the full inventory the grid can accumulate at the bottom of its range, not for the per-order amount you type into the setup form. If your grid commits $50 per level across 20 levels, plan for $1,000 of deployed inventory in a worst case, plus a stop-loss buffer.

DCA capital is committed capital: the question is not how much you start with but how long you can keep the schedule running through a 40% drawdown without touching it. A DCA bot you pause in month two was worse than never starting.

Combining both

The strongest retail setups usually run both on different slices of capital: a DCA core accumulating a long-term conviction asset like Bitcoin, and one or two grids harvesting volatility around it. The bots hedge each other’s weaknesses — the grid monetizes the boredom that makes DCA painful, and the DCA core keeps you invested when the grid is stopped out flat.

Bottom line

Sideways and volatile: grid. Long horizon and a thesis: DCA. Both, sized separately, is not a compromise — it is the point. You can backtest both configurations and run them with virtual funds on the NexoBot demo before committing anything.
